VETERANS DAY PARADE

Come show your patriotic spirit as we recognize how lucky we are to live in the land of the free because of the brave with a Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Jacksonville on November 11th. The patriotic parade kicks off at 11:01AM and will include military officials, grand Marshalls, both active and retired military, and several proud Veteran groups. You’ll also enjoy seeing giant balloons, floats, and high school marching bands and JROTC units.

About this event

Friday is Veterans Day and that means an opportunity for citizens to pay tribute to the country’s military, past and present, in Jacksonville, Florida and across the nation.

The city’s Veterans Day Parade, presented by The Law Offices of Ron Sholes, P.A., will begin in front of the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts at 300 Water St. at 11:01 a.m.

The day and time are significant in that it celebrates the ending of World War I fighting at 11 a.m., Nov. 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month) — which became known as “Armistice Day.”

“As a city that is enriched with military roots, we are honored to host this annual parade to show our support and gratitude for those actively serving and those who have served,” Mayor Lenny Curry said. “We are proud of and deeply grateful for our military members and their families.”

The grand marshal will be Maj. Gen. Douglas Burnett of the U.S. Air Force and feature two of Jacksonville’s oldest veterans: Joy Casino of the U.S. Navy and Roxwell Robinson Sr. of the U.S. Navy Reserve, both 99.

Military-related units, school groups and decorative floats will head from Water Street to Independent Drive, to Newnan Street and then north to Bay Street concluding at Catherine Street.

Road closures can be expected

5 a.m.: Close Main Street Bridge ramp to Independent Drive

7 a.m.: Close both eastbound lanes of Water Street between Lee and Jefferson streets

7:30 a.m.: East Bay Street closed from Liberty Street through Shipyards

10:45 a.m.: Eas Bay closed from Ocean to Newnan streets

10:45 a.m.: Rolling closure start at Water and Jefferson streets
